France Travel Restrictions: Looking for Yacht Jobs During COVID-19
How you look for yacht jobs in France and the applicable French travel restrictions will depend on where you’re from.
As of the 31st January 2021, new France entry restrictions have been put in place by the French government. It is now impossible for Non-EU-crew, including the British since Brexit, to travel to look for yacht jobs in France.
French travel restrictions for non-EU yacht crew
Non-EU citizens cannot enter France without compelling grounds, as per the set list from the government – looking for work is not a valid reason and it is now illegal to come to France for holidays or other leisure purposes.
On the other hand, those with a firm job offer and SEA (seafarer employment agreement) in hand can enter France by providing a negative PCR test done less than 72 hours before departure and by agreeing to self-isolate for 7 days. In addition to that, it is necessary to fill in the form that can be found on the French government website to justify that you have a compelling reason to travel.
French entry restrictions for EU yacht crew
EU crew can enter France and look for yacht jobs as long as they provide a negative PCR test done less than 72 hours before departure. No France quarantine or self-isolation is required. Technically, those crew could dockwalk however, this is strongly discouraged and frowned upon. Some ports might also restrict access.
The best thing to do for all crew at this moment is to stay at home and register with a few reputable crew agencies who will do their best to champion you to their clients. With a SEA in hand, you will be able to travel.
