New to Yachting

  • Writer's pictureYPI CREW

The war in Ukraine has prompted a massive outpouring of support around the world and the yachting industry has also joined in to help those in need. There have been a number of collections organised to send goods to people in Ukraine or neighbouring countries. Charities are however at the moment saying that donating money is the best way to help those caught up in the crisis.

At YPI CREW we have decided to show our support by donating to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), who have a long history of delivering aid to hundreds of thousands of children and families whose lives and futures hang in the balance.

According to UNICEF, the war in Ukraine poses an immediate and growing threat to the lives and well-being of the country's 7.5 million children. UNICEF is working with partners to reach vulnerable children and families with essential services – including health, education, protection, water and sanitation – as well as life-saving supplies.

You can find out more about how is UNICEF helping children and families in Ukraine by visiting the official UNICEF website.

How can you make a contribution:

UN is also a home to a number of other organisations that share a common goal of providing relief to the people of Ukraine affected by the ongoing war. We invite all of you who are able to show your support by making a donation to any of these organisations.

Find out how and where you can contribute by following the links below.

Dan Walden, Unicef's senior emergencies specialist, says that sending money instead of goods, is the most efficient and effective way to distribute emergency aid so here we bring you a list of official UN backed organisations that you can give a donation to.

Donations can be made through the links to their websites, which you can find below.

Intensifying hostilities in Ukraine are threatening the lives and wellbeing of tens of thousands of families. Help us provide them with the means to survive. The United Nations and humanitarian partners are committed to staying and delivering assistance and protection to the people of Ukraine

UNHCR has stepped up our operations and capacity in Ukraine and neighbouring countries. We have been on the ground in Ukraine since 2014 and we remain firmly committed to support all affected populations in Ukraine and countries in the region. Your support can help ensure that Ukrainians forced to flee their homes are sheltered and safe.

The World Food Programme (WFP) is launching an emergency operation to provide food assistance for people fleeing the conflict inside Ukraine and in neighbouring countries, following an official request from the country's Government. WFP is on the ground right now providing critical food assistance. With your help, we can deliver food directly to Ukrainian people in dire need.

UNICEF ramps up efforts to deliver aid to hundreds of thousands of children and families whose lives and futures hang in the balance. UNICEF is working to ease extreme hardships brought on by years of armed conflict and to meet urgent and escalating needs for safe water, health care, nutrition and protection.

International Organization for Migration (IOM)

IOM has been in Ukraine since 1996 and is committed to staying and delivering vital assistance to those fleeing the country, the internally displaced, migrants and third-country nationals. We stand ready to respond to the emerging humanitarian needs in the country and the region. Donate today to help us provide emergency support to vulnerable people on the move.

In conflict, it is always the most vulnerable who suffer the most - amongst them pregnant women and newborns. UNFPA teams are on the ground in Ukraine and in bordering countries supporting those fleeing the danger. Show your support for the women and girls of Ukraine.

UN Women stands in solidarity with the women of Ukraine, including those who had to flee their homes and separate from their loved ones, those who stayed to provide humanitarian support in extremely difficult circumstances and at great risk, and the women human rights defenders and activists who are making their voices heard in calling for peace.

WHO is working closely with our offices in Ukraine and neighbouring countries, as well as partners to rapidly respond to the health emergency triggered by the conflict and to minimize disruptions to the delivery of critical healthcare services. WHO continues to deliver much-needed support on urgent health needs.
