Nominations still open for ACREW’s Captain (Master Unlimited) Award
This award is one of 20 that will reward people who have proved themselves to be the very best at their yacht crew jobs. The awards represent both a personal achievement and an industry-wide recognition of professional excellence.
Rewarding excellence in a yacht captain job
The Captain (Master Unlimited) Crew Award recognises a person who has excelled at his or her yacht captain job. Nominees should have the proven ability to ensure safety onboard and must have shown how they have moved with the times to tackle new challenges such as cybersecurity. The Captain you nominate demonstrates excellent management skills of a large crew. The yacht under command is excellently maintained and managed to the optimum standards. The Captain communicates effectively on all levels with contractors, crew, owners and guests. With regard to operations, safety, compliance and technology onboard are of paramount importance.
“We are delighted to work with Abi and ACREW and to sponsor the Captain (Master Unlimited) Award,” says Laurence Lewis, Director of YPI CREW. “It’s a prestigious award recognising captains operating at the highest level, who are in command of the most sophisticated yachts, leading, motivating and mentoring the largest number of crew and interacting with guests at a level never seen before. These captains are the finest of the industry; it was fitting for YPI CREW to be involved at that level and to recognise these captains’ incredible talent, hard work and commitment to perfection.”
A Meaningful Awards Programme
Abigail (Abi) Wallace, Director and Owner of ACREW, founded the company nine years ago with the mission of raising standards of service onboard superyachts.
“Over the past nine years, we have provided education opportunities to 14,000 Captains and Crew through our workshops, seminars and networking events,” says Abigail. “The concept of the Crew Awards was formed at the very beginning of ACREW but we needed to grow the membership, influence and reach before we could implement a meaningful awards programme. The Crew Awards are an important component of ACREW enabling us to recognise and reward professionalism onboard.”
In 2018, ACREW received 38 Captain nominees. To date, 24 nominations have so far been made for the 2019 Captain (Master Unlimited) Crew Award and many more are expected.
“We would encourage any crew member or industry professional who knows of Captains deserving recognition to nominate,” says Abigail.
Online nominations can be made at https://acrew.com/competition/crew-awards-2019/
The names of the 30 judges are kept confidential but Abigail says each judge credible and extensive experience in the industry, primarily working onboard yachts.
“The majority of the judges are Captains but we also have representation from all departments and a small number of industry professionals,” she adds.
A ceremony to celebrate outstanding competence in yacht crew jobs
The award winners will be celebrated at a ceremony on 12 October 2019 in Nice. This prestigious Superyacht crew event will be attended by 500 Captains and Crew from around the world. A champagne reception will be followed by a three-course dinner while the winners are announced and take to the stage to receive their awards. The tables will later be moved aside and the dancefloor will be opened for the big Liquid Yacht Wear After Party.
Help give the Captains who’ve impressed you the recognition they deserve by making your nominations before the 17 May deadline!
